Attention students II MBBS: FM list of wet specimen for reference

No. 1 HEART (FATTY)

  • No injury over heart.
  • Coronaries show athermanous plaques with reduced potency.
  • Ventricular wall thickened.

No. 2 HEART(RESPIRATORY FAILURE)

  • No injury over heart.
  • No macroscopic pathology seen.
  • coronaries patent.
  • Cardiac chambers dilated.

No. 3 LIVER RUPTURE

  • Laceration present on anterior surface of right lobe of liver, vertical. size:  4 c.m./ 3 c.m./ 1.5 c.m.
  • Death is due to haemorragic shock.
  • Caused by blow with / impact against hard & blunt object.

No. 4 BRAIN HAEMATOMA

  • Specimen of brain with dura in site.
  • Extradural haematoma on side of brain of 4 c. m. /3 c. m. in size.
  • Caused by blow with/ impact against hard & blunt object.
  • Brain: congested and edematous.

No. 5 INJURY WHILE    

          SCATTING

  • Specimen of brain.
  • SDH on left temporoparietal region on its lateral aspect.
  • Caused by fall against hard & blunt surface / head striking to floor.

No. 6 KIDNEY RUPTURE

  • Specimen of right kidney.
  • Laceration on anterior surface near hilum.
  • Caused by fall from height- retroparitoneal heamatoma.

No. 7 HEART (FATTY)

  • Enlarged heart, 350 grams.
  • atheromatous plaques in vessels & coronaries.
  • Left ventricular wall thickened.

No. 8 TRACHEA (HAEMORRAGIC SPOTS)

  • Specimen of trachea, opened by vertical incision on its front.
  • Sub-mucus haemorragic spots present on its upper part below epiglotis.

No. 9 HEART (HAEMORRAGIC SPOTS)

  • Specimen of heart.
  • Sub-endocardium hard. i.e. turbine spot.
  • One of the findings of tries of asphyxial sign.

No. 10 FETUS WITH PLACENTA

  • Female sex fetus well developed with intact umbilical cord and placenta.
  • Length: 35 c. m. ; Age: 7 months.
  • Scalp hair 0.5 to 0.8 c. m.
  • Finger nails up to tip of fingers.

No. 11 SKULL FRACTURE

  • Specimen of skull.
  • Bone gap of 4 c.m. x 2 c.m. on right frontal bone, 5 c.m. away from midline and 2 c.m. front of right sagittal suture.
  • Depressed fracture, caused by blow with hard and blunt object.

No. 12 HEART (FATTY)

  • No injury over heart.
  • Coronaries show atheromatous plaques with reduced potency.
  • Ventricular wall thickened.
  • Heart enlarged.

No. 13 STERNUM FRACTURE

  • Transverse fracture present on sternum.
  • Fracture located between 4th & 5th rib below 4th rib level.
  • Caused by collision while driving a car as result of impact against steering wheel.

No. 14 PUNCTURE BY IRON CHIP

  • Puncture hole present on anterolateral wall of left ventricles.
  • 0.8 c.m. diameter with rugged edges, cavity deep.

No. 15 SPLEEN ACCESSORY

  • Specimen of spleen showing accessory spleen.

No. 16 LUNG    (HAEMORRAGIC SPOTS)

  • Peanut size haemorragic spots present on lung surface situated on front of lower lobe near inter lobular region.
  • It is known as tarduie spots.
  • One of the findings of tried of asphyxial sign.

No. 17 OCCLUSION OF CORONARY ARTERIES.

  • Heart enlarged.
  • Walls thickened.
  • Coronaries show atheromatous plaques.
  • Left coronary found block at 2 c. m. distal to its origin.

No. 18 IRON CHIP MARK ON LUNG.

  • Puncture wound with rugged margin on lower lobe of left lung.
  • Passed through and through.
  • Death is due to haemorragic shock.

No. 19 FETUS IN UTERUS

  • Specimen of uterus, opened on its front showing fetus in situ.
  • Length of fetus 10 c. m.
  • Age about 3 months.

 

No. 20 LIGATURE MARK ON NECK. (STRANGULATION)

  • Full term fetus.
  • Ligature mark present on lower part of neck, below thyroid cartilage, complete and transverse.
  • Death is due to asphyxia as a result of strangulation.

No. 21 FULL TERM FETUS

  • 48 c.m. - length
  • 2.75 kgs - weight
  • 2 c.m. - scalp hair
  • Nails beyond tip of fingers.
  • Eyelids separated.

No. 22 LIGATURE MARK

  • Specimen of skin.
  • Shows ligature mark in form of dry, brown, hard, parchment like skin.
  • Ante mortem in nature.
  • Death is due to asphyxia as a result of hanging.

A. FIREARM INJURY LIVER

  • Laceration of part of right lobe caused by passing of the bullet of rifled type weapon.
  • Death is due to haemorragic shock as a result of injury to liver caused by firearm.

B. LIVER RUPTURE

  • Laceration of liver on its upper part of right lobe and on under surface of left near inferior margin.
  • Death is due to haemorragic shock as a result of injury sustained on liver.

C. LIGATURE MARK

  • Specimen of skin.
  • Shows ligature mark in form of dry, brown, hard, parchment like skin.
  • Ante mortem in nature.
  • Death is due to asphyxia as a result of hanging.

D. ELECTRIC BURN MARK

  • Blackening of skin 2-3 degree burns.
  • Hard indurate base.
  • Death is due to cardio respiratory failure as a result of electrocution.

E. FIREARM  INJURY LUNG

  • Circular 0.8 c.m. diameter wound on lower surface of lung caused by entry of firearm projectile- rifled type of weapon.

F. ELECTRIC BURN MARK

  • Blackening of skin with 2-3 degree burns.
  • Hard indurate base.
  • Pattern of electric wire can be seen.
  • Death is due to cardio respiratory failure as a result of electrocution.

G. HEART- STAB WOUND

  • Stab wound vertical near interventricular septum of front wall of left ventricle.
  • 1.2 c.m. x0.8 c.m. x cavity deep.
  • Both angles acute.
  • Margins sharply cut.
  • Death is due to haemorragic shock.

H. UTERUS WITH FETUS

  • Specimen of uterus- opened in front showing fetus in situ.
  • Length of fetus 10 cm.

I. FETUS

  • 2 months
  • Surrounded by membrane.
  • Fetus is not viable.

J. ENTRY WOUND OF FIREARM

  • 1.2 x 1.2 cm size
  • Inverted margins.
  • Blackening seen surrounding wound.
  • Caused by entry of rifled type of firearm.

K. FIREARM INJURY TRACHEA

  • Bullet passed through & through upper part of trachea.
  • Distorting its normal configuration.
  • Death is due to firearm injury by rifled type of weapon.

L. ELECTRIC BURN MARK

  • Blackening of skin with 2-3 degree burns.
  • Hard indurate base.
  • Death is due to cardio respiratory failure as a result of electrocution.

M. CARBON PARTICLES TRACHEA

  • Specimen of trachea opened by vertical incision shows presence of carbon particles adherent.
  • Suggestive of ante mortem burns.

N. FIREARM INJURY LUNG

  • Specimen of right lung shows bullet injury through & through.
  • Track of bullet- downward, posterior and to left.

O. BRAIN HEMORRHAGE.

  • Sub arachnoid hemorrhage situated on right side of mid brain & right parietotemporal region and under surface of right frontal lobe.

P. SPLEEN LACERATION

  • Spleen enlarged.
  • Laceration on its upper pole.
  • Size 6 cm x 4 cm x 1.2 cm
  • Cause of death is haemorragic shock.
  • Injury caused by impact against blunt object.

Q. STONE IN KIDNEY

  • Specimen of kidney with stones in situ.

R. RUPTURE HEART

  • Heart is ruptured completely.
  • Damage is caused by passing of bullet, resulting in to death.
  • Caused by projectile of rifled firearm weapon.

S. FIREARM INJURY LUNG

  • Specimen of left lung showing track of bullet passing through & through caused by bullet of firearm injury.

T. STOMACH  (CORROSIVE)

  • Specimen of open stomach showing congested haemorragic necrosed mucosa.
  • Caused by acid ingestion.
  • Death is due to perforation of stomach.

U. RUPTURE HEART

  • Heart is ruptured completely.
  • Damage is caused by passing of bullet, resulting into death.
  • Caused by projectile of rifled firearm weapon.

V. RUPTURE SPLEEN

  • Laceration on inner surface of spleen.
  • Near hilum.
  • Transverse.
  • Size- 6 cm x 2.2 cm x 0.8 cm.
  • Cause of death is haemorragic shock
  • Caused by impact against hard and blunt object.

W. STAB WOUND HEART

  • Vertical stab wound on front of left, size 2.5 cm x 0.8 cm x cavity deep.
  • Margins sharp both angles acute.
  • Death is due to haemorragic shock as a result of stab injury by double-edged knife.

X. STAB WOUND HEART

  • Transverse stab wound on front left.
  • Size 2 cm x 0.8 cm x cavity deep.
  • Margins sharply cut.
  • Both angles acute.
  • Death is due to haemorragic shock as a result of stab injury due to double-edged knife.
