Hard back edition - 748 pages

Regarded as among the world’s best selling text on the subject, the popularity of this book can be gauged from the fact that it has been translated to eight major languages.

Superb illustrations which complement a formatted text which is not too detailed but summarizes all important points related to each topic, helps students to brush up their grey cells just before the exam. The thing that captures the eye about this book is the beautiful reproduction and classy colour pictures, generously spread throughout the book. Most face to face pages have at least one or more colour pictures, diagrams or textboxes, so text is well broken up, for the convenience of the readers. All this makes the book easy on eye, and pleasure to read. Though often described as a ’Textbook for Trainees and Busy Practitioners’, it can be of immense help to all the undergraduates to develop a rational and reproducible approach to each condition, standing them in good stead for the exams.

Apart from may be the high cost according to Indian standards, it is difficult to fault this book. As described by ’THE OPTICIAN’- ’Nothing has come close to superceding it in 10 years. If you only ever buy a textbook, this is the one. It is a best seller and will remain so’.

“Five Point Someone”
by Chetan Bhagat, IIT-D, IIM-A.
Category : Fiction

Well here’s a book for the readers to get to know all about college life at the IIT. The one liner for the book says “What not to do at the IIT’s...” It’s about what it takes to have an average 5-point GPA score a marking system that grades your academic performance on a scale of 10.

The story begins with 3 central characters Hari (the author), Ryan & Alok. The book depicts all the hilarious incidents occurring in their life from day 1 hostel ragging till the convocation. Their life goes on like a roller-coaster ride with all kinds of incidents like love, parties & movies to their suspension from the institute & suicide attempts…The funda of ’chillums’… I mean chilling out, discovering what a wonderful combination Floyd and Vodka can make, making out with the HOD’s daughter on the terrace of the hostel building and what not. In an attempt to revolutionize the so called “crap IIT system” these 3 come up with all different kinds of ideas, ending up into serious troubles...A story of 3 friends whose measly 5 point something GPAs come in way of everythinglove, friendship, life & future. Will they make it..?
The art of story telling - the humorous similes used, pen-picturing the characters effectively, etc. just classy. I doubt which guy would not fall in love with the character called Neha - Hari’s girlfriend…!!! I am sure each one of u will find yourself being reflected somewhere in one of the characters…I tell you, you all will surely like these Five Pointers for they are Friends for sure. It certainly does a good job in capturing sweet college romance and some ’never to attempt’ college adventures..!! In a way, Dil Chahta Hai in print.

I would give a 10 on 10 for these five pointers. Discover their journey from a 5 point something to a 5 point someone. Bring out the popcorn and just take care not to tumble off the chair while blasting out with laughter…!! Go get it…
