Activities during the year 2003-2004
The Professor & Associate Professor has served as Examiner of the Various Undergraduate & Postgraduate examination of not only Gujarat University but also other Universities.
Faculties of the Department have also worked as monitor of various examination of the Gujarat University
Departmental faculties have attended the workshop on ORET project at IIM, Ahmedabad as participants of the institute on 4 th april 2003.
Various faculty members & Postgraduate students attended the IIIrd Workshop on "Research Methodology" Organised by HAP (Health Action by People) at Trivendram, Kerala from 16 th April to 18 th April 2003.
The Professor has attended the Dissemination workshop for malaria eradication programme at Civil Hospital on 10 th July 2003
The professor has attended the focused group discussion on cadaveric transplant meeting at insititute of kidney diseases and research centre on 11 th July 2003.
The department is actively involved with the Verbal Autopsy Project. The training of the workers for the Verbal Autopsy project was held during 29 th July to 4 th August at the Department.
Various faculty members attended the workshop on "Problem Solving for Better Health" (PSBH) as an External Facilitator at Rural Medical College of Pravara Medical Trust, Loni & Government Medical College-Surat organized by Health Action by People (HAP) on 4-5 th & 7-8 th August 2003 respectively.
Faculties have given training to Internee doctors of Shri Akhand Anand Ayurvedic College regarding First Aid on 13-14 th August 2003 at Shri Akhand Anand Ayurvedic College, Lecture Hall.
Various faculty members attended the workshop on "Problem Solving for Better Health" (PSBH) as an External Facilitator at Rural Medical College of Pramukhswami Medical College, Karamsad and Government Medical College Rajkot organized by Health Action by People (HAP) on 17-18 September.
The Professor has attended the core committee at BJMC - "Sanskriti hall" on 5 th July 2003.
Two faculties from the department attended the Workshop on Cause of Death Assignment at Hotel Clarks Avadh during 7-9 Oct 2003 organised by King George Medical College (KGMC), Lucknow, Registrar General of India (RGI) & Centre for Global Health Research (CGHR), CANADA with reference to the Verbal Autopsy Project.
Resident doctors of the Department attended the workshop on "Problem Solving for Better Health" (PSBH) as an External Facilitator at Medical College, Jabalpur and Medical College, Bhopal organized by Health Action by People (HAP) on 3-5 & 6-7 November 2003.
The department Organized & Managed the First Workshop on Research Methodology for the Postgraduate Medical Students of Smt. N.H.L. Municipal Medical College on 12-14 November 2003 at the Department of Community Medicine.
The departmental staff was also involved actively in the outbreak investigation of diarrhoea in Mafatnagar area of Naroda on 18 November 2003 as well as other epidemic investigations throughout the year.
The departmental staff also joined the celebration of World AIDS day on 1 st December. The project staff was actively involved in this. Faculty members also delivered informative speech on AIDS & its Prevention at Pharmacy college, Himmatnagar & NGO at village gota.
The professor & Head as well as the Assistant Professor epidemiologist also attended the INDO-US workshop on environmental and occupational Epidemiology on 13-16 january 2004 at the National Institute of Occupational Health, Ahmedabad.
The professor & Head attended the workshop in relation to disaster management at Sardar Patel Institute of Public Administration, Ahmedabad on 19-23 january 2004.
The faculty members of the department attended the XIth Annual conference of Indian Association of Preventive & Social Medicine - Gujarat Chapter (IAPSM-GC) at B. J. Medical College, Ahmedabad on 24th Jan '2004. Various faculty members presented their paper on various studies. Dr. Sonal B. Parikh also won the award for best paper presentation & Dr. H.M. Patel young scientist award.
Dr. Jay K. Sheth from the department attended Regional workshop on "Biomedical Waste Management - Status analysis and Planning for the future" organised by Centre for Environmental Education (CEE) and supported by Ministry of Environment & Forest (MoEF) on 3-4 Feb, 2004 at Poona.
Dr. Manish Fancy Resident, PSM also presented a paper on Civil Registration System of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation at surat in Conference of Registrars of Birth & Death of million plus cities on 12-13 February 2004 & won second prize.
Various faculty members have worked as a Expert External Monitor for the National Polio Surveillance Programme (NPSP), World Health Organization (WHO), Gandhinagar for the various blocks of Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar & kheda districts & All the zones of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation during supplementary immunization Activity of the SNID round of April / June / October / November 2003 and January / February 2004.
The professor and Head of the department also attended the National Conference of Indian Association of Preventive and Social Medicine at PGIMER, Chandigarh on 26-28 February 2004.
Various faculty members & Postgraduate students/Residents have given training to various teachers of various schools of Ahmedabad city under the school aids education project.
Two faculty members have attended the workshop on Principles and Practice of Education Technology in Medical Education organized by the Medical Education Unit (MEU). Now almost all of the teaching staff in the department has received such training.
The Representative faculty member from the department also accompanied the students of VI semester who presented their completed project in the second National Conference of PSBH at Trivandrum, Kerala.
The department has organized second workshop on Medical Certification of Cause of Death for the Resident doctors of Smt NHL Municipal Medical College on 3 rd March 2004 at the department of Preventive and Social Medicine.
The faculty members and residents also worked as Facilitators at the PSBH workshop at GMC, Bhavnagar on 9-10 March 2004.
The professor & Head of the department attended various SRS collaborators meet at Trivandrum, Delhi, Mumbai etc for the follow up & smooth conduction of Verbal Autopsy project at Smt NHL Municipal Medical College, Ahmedabad.
The faculty members and residents also worked as Facilitators at the PSBH workshop at Medical College of ujjain on 24-25 March 2004. |
